The painting of the interior walls and ceilings of our home has begun. As I watched my son skillfully prepare the walls to be painted, I thought about how much patience and perseverance it takes to prepare the walls before any painting could begin.
He had to fill in with plaster, patching all the big and little imperfections on the walls which were too numerous to count. He had to allow the plaster to dry completely before he could then sand the plaster into a smooth surface. Sometimes the process of
applying more plaster had to be repeated several times. As I observed this work in process, I thought of about the three words that we have heard of so many times: restore, refresh, and renew. God is calling me and
you each and every day to come to him to be restored, refreshed, and renewed. We only need to have an open heart to His grace and perseverance to continue to be willing to be restored, refreshed and renewed daily. As it says in Psalm 71-“You will restore my life again.” It is not a one time deal—notice the word 'again'. Then God whispers softly “I will refresh the
weary and satisfy the faint.”—Jeremiah 31:25. Conversion of my hard heart is an on-going process. But then God gives me glimpses of his healing love and hope when he speaks in Isaiah 40:31. “But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their
strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” Sometimes the process of being restored, refreshed, and renewed can be a slow, painful process without any noticeable results.
I, like the rest of the modern world, would like high-speed instant results but God who is not bound by time, keeps whispering to my heart, Trust in Me. This gives me comfort when I get impatient with myself
or others, to remember to breath deeply and whisper--'Jesus I trust in you!' Oh by the way, the wall in the living room has been restored, renewed and sparkles with a bright, clean refreshing new life-look. One wall completed—more walls and ceilings
to be completed one step at a time. Stay tuned for updates!
