April 16th was our 48th wedding anniversary. When I stop and reflect on the 48 years, I am in awe. My husband Cliff and I were both 18 years old—mere babes probably
to young to really grasp the commitment we were making in the sacrament of Holy Matrimony.
Even our parents were very skeptical that the marriage would last because we
were so immature and young. But that is the way of young love—we were in love and thats all that mattered.
But by God's grace we have endured our share of difficulties
and experienced many joys, laughter and tears over the years. The greatest joy of our lives was being blessed with two beautiful sons, David and Chris.
Before we entered into the marriage if someone had told us of all the things we would be living through, we might have both run for the hills and never looked back. I am glad they didn't tell us.
We learned by experience and God's grace to respect each other and to accept each other's shortcomings. Our love has grown
and matured. We still argue at times. We still disagree at times. However, we still love each other but most important we like each other. Even though we each have our own interests that we pursue, we still enjoy hanging out with each other.
For our anniversary my husband invited me to take his hand and go with him on a trip down memory lane. We traveled to
Butte, Montana and went to St. Lawrence O'Toole's Church in Walkerville where we were married on April 16, 1966. It is a beautiful white Catholic Church that sets on a hill. We then drove by each of our homes that we lived in while living in Butte. It was
truly a pleasant trip down memory lane.
One of the homes was turned into a green house. We
were able to tour the green house inside which brought back wonderful memories. Looking at what once was the yard, I still could picture our two boys playing with our dog Bambi in the yard.
I am glad we took this trip down memory lane today because it helps me to realize that I am truly blessed to be sharing this journey with my sweetheart and my husband one day at a time.
As an added blessing to our special day,
our son Chris and his girlfriend Diane prepared a wonderful home-cooked dinner for us that was just so yummy and delightful. Today I am grateful for God's love shining through my loved ones.
