“When they had eaten breakfast, Jesus asked Simon Peter, "Simon, son of John, do you love me more
than these?" "Yes, Lord," he said to him, "you know that I love you." "Feed my lambs," he told him. John 21:15
As I was reflecting on Simon Peter's response to Jesus, “you know that I love you,” I felt as if Jesus was saying to me, “If you love me then why are you ignoring me?" I was a little taken back by the question.
“How am I ignoring you Jesus? I spend time with you in pray everyday,
I read Your Word and I receive you in Eucharist.” Upon further pondering, I sensed that Jesus wants me to invite Him into the ordinary of my day not just in my prayer time. He wants to have a living on-going relationship with me in the little ordinary
happenings of each day.
Now, I try and remember to invite Jesus into
my daily duties of washing dishes, doing laundry, shopping and the other simple ordinary things I do each day. When Jesus is by my side helping me to get the little chores completed, I find myself more at peace, less grumpy and a little more joyful.
I invited Jesus to go with me to the grocery store the other day. I had to pick up a couple
of items. I was thinking about gardening and trying to find support sticks for my tomato and pepper plants. The price at the garden store was way beyond what I wanted to pay. Then I felt like Jesus wanted me to check out the baking aisle for the garden support
sticks. A very odd place to find garden support sticks I thought to myself.
In
the middle of the baking aisle there they were a package of 100, 14 inch bamboo skewers. The price of the bamboo skewers were a fraction of the price of garden support sticks. The bamboo sticks works perfectly for supporting my plants. I was thanking Jesus
for the great 'find.'
This experience was such a great yet simple
insight into how Jesus wants to be present to me and to you in the ordinary happenings of our day.
Reflection:
I invite you Jesus into the ordinary of my day. If
the tasks at hand are difficult, I know you will make my load lighter and sweeter.
