Where do we encounter in a profound way our Blessed Mother Mary and the Holy Angels and Saints? It is at every Mass. Did you know that at every Mass we are praying and worshipping with many, many angels gathered
on the altar? Your guardian angel always goes with you to Mass and is pleased to be with a host of his fellow angels singing and worshiping God.
When we recite the Confiteor, we confess the angel’s
presence, … “I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin, all the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters to pray for me to the Lord our God.” When we sing the Gloria, it is the same song which the angels sang at the first Christmas.
As the priest prays the Preface at Mass try and imagine these magnificent heavenly angels filling the entire Church with their presence: “And so, with Angels and Archangels, with Thrones and Dominions,
and with all the hosts and power of heaven, we sing the hymn of your glory, as without end we acclaim: Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts. Heaven and earth are full of you glory. Hosanna I the highest. Blessed is he who come in the name of the Lord. Hosanna
in the highest.”
When we sing at Mass, we are singing with all the angels. We are swept right up into Heaven at every Mass. It doesn’t matter if there is music or not because the Holy Angels
and Saints are singing and worshiping before the Altar. It doesn’t matter if every body is singing off key or the homily is rather boring. We are at the Heavenly Banquet at every Mass. What a celebration we are privileged to participate in
with Mary, the angels and all the saints.
"The Mass we celebrate on earth is a mysterious participation in the Heavenly liturgy. We do go to Heaven when we go to Mass, and this is true of every Mass we
attend.” ---The Lamb’s Supper by Dr. Scout Hahn.
